WHO is (correctly) saying that the virus cannot be contained without testing: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/22/world...e=Homepage
Even if we get this under control, all it takes is for a single case to escape the quarantine or be re-imported from another country, and this whole process starts over. The testing HAS to happen. Someone on the board here keeps saying that we can't afford to do mass testing. That's bullshit--if South Korea can afford it, then we can, and it is the only way to get this under control in the long term.
Meanwhile some cities are states are basically giving up on testing because they still sufficent test kits. Great job, CDC!
Quote:the World Health Organization’s top emergency expert said on Sunday that countries could not simply lock down their societies to defeat coronavirus without public health measures to avoid a resurgence of the virus down the road.
“What we really need to focus on is finding those who are sick, those who have the virus, and isolate them, find their contacts and isolate them,” the expert, Mike Ryan, said in an interview on the BBC’s “Andrew Marr Show.” “If we don’t put in place the strong public health measures now,” he said, “when those movement restrictions and lockdowns are lifted, the danger is the disease will jump back up.”
