This may be a dumb comment but having spent a couple years in Europe I appreciated the way in which people kissed each other in the cheeks liberally. Can that cultural practice made Italians even more vulnerable...

I've actually read that same concept in a few articles.  Sounds as if's true, and Italy's contagion and mortality statistics are through the roof.
