So why did we spike the ball with 6 seconds left? Why not with 3 or 4 seconds left? There was a one-second difference between the game clock and the play clock. Wouldn't the game have been over without needing to kick off???? Please help me understand.

Just guessing but he probably meant to spike it at 5 seconds and there might have been a slightly quick whistle.  Plus, I suppose the more the QB waits in that situation, the more certainty the D has about exactly when it will be snapped.
