Just to build on what everyone is saying about Odenigbo and his lean toward Stanford, Greg Biggins, ESPN recruiting analyst for the Western Region tweeted that if he is admitted, Odenigbo is all Stanford.Â
FWIW, Odenigbo is already on record as saying, wherever he goes, he is strongly considering red-shirting his first year to give himself time to transition to the college game, and get adjusted to the more intense level of academics. That sounds like a sensible plan, but I wonder if he comes in and is just dominant and can effect the game as a situational pass rusher (think, Niners and Aldon Smith), if he would reconsider.
Also, I agree totally with FarmBoy's observation about developing QBs. Unless you have a defense like LSU or Bama, it is very difficult to have success without developing at least an above average signal caller. I'm not sure your QB has to be all-American calibre (though who wouldn't want that if possible), but we need to develop a quarterback who can read defenses, make solid decisions, avoid stupid turnovers, convert makeable third downs. Combine those elements with a great running attack and a very good defense, and you can count on going to a very good bowl game. Get the All-American play from your QB, and you are challenging for Pac-12 title (if we can ever figure out how to slow down Oregon) and BCS level bowl games. Of course, this is easier said than done.
