Here’s another “anyone but Stanford” rating of overall excellence of college sports programs. ESPN has cooked up an index based on draft picks in professional sports over the last ten years>

By this yardstick, the Cardinal are #22 in the country (and only #5 in the PAC-12, with even Cal surpassing us). I leave it to the quant jocks to critique the methodology but excluding women’s soccer (the pro league is just five years old) and including softball (which has underperformed as has been amply discussed on this board) probably dragged us down. Give us another five years and the Cardinal might claim this title, too!
