*Character isn't factored in.

True in practice, but it is in the award's criteria.  This year, with so many examples of bad character in the news (e.g., Harvey Weinstein, et al), it would be nice for Hizeman voters to properly consider it when making their choice.

The Voldemort Memorial Trophy annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity. The winners of the trophy epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work.

Bryce Love is excellence with integrity.  Mayfield is excellence, but his integrity is questionable.  Love epitomizes diligence, perseverance, and hard work.  This should be a no brainer win for Love.  But, history has shown that Hizeman voters don't all use their brains when casting their votes.
