The Stanford women have risen to the challenge the past three years in the NCAA tournament during stroke play, qualifying for match play and even improving their position on the final round each year.
The Stanford men's results tell a different story.Â
In 2015, they finished a strong 2nd in the regionals, then missed the cut after finishing 54 holes in 21st place.
In 2016, they won the regionals, then missed the cut after finishing 54 holes in 28th place.
In 2017, they tied for the regional championship and we'll see what happens at the national tournament.
McNealy in particular has really struggled at NCAAs.
In 2014 as a frosh, he finished 55th
In 2015 as a soph, he won the regionals, then finished 35th at NCAAs
In 2016 as a junior, he was 2nd at regionals, then finished 112th at NCAAs
In 2017 as a senior, he was 3rd at regionals, but he has not recorded a birdie and is +3 at NCAAs so far
I am sure that he and the coaches have tried a lot of different things to get a better performance at the national tournament. I hope that something kicks in soon. Stanford needs him to lead the way to advance.
