Starting this fall, Utah will start giving partial scholarships to student-e-athletes to compete in League of Legends.
I had to check if the article was published on April 1.
I'm not opposed to Stanford joining novel forms of competition, but it seems odd to connect this to athletics. Maybe there should be a dept to prepare students for other forms of non-athletic competition like math olympiads, building solar cars, chess, and video games.
While Stanford and Cal were tussling in the rain at Memorial Stadium on Saturday [Nov 19, 2016], another battle between the two schools raged down the road in a much more surprising setting.
In front of a crowd of a few thousand people at Oracle Arena and nearly 40,000 more watching online, Stanford defeated Cal in a League of Legends Big Game show match during the Intel Extreme Masters, one of the top competitive gaming events in the nation.
