Your 17 years old, feeling immortal, a football God at your school, told by the top college coaches in the land that you are destined for stardom and an NFL future, part of a sporting culture that encourages arrogance, sometimes even argues it is necessary for success in your chosen field.  "Full of yourself" is the default position, I think, for this cohort, and true humility and perspective is the exception. Thank god for Stanford and some of the other true "scholar-athlete" institutions, that there are enough exceptions to gather excellent recruiting classes.

By the way, read some articles on Colby Parkinson, and you will find a good dose of football arrogance.  Which, really, is not such a bad thing.  When Brevin Knight brought that same kind of attitude to Stanford basketball, good things happened.
