I've often thought of it as being as much about the school's/coaching staff's approach to "roster management" as anything else. Alabama has finished #1 in recruiting for each of the past several years. Sure, they've had a disproportionate number of 4- and 5-star guys, but they've also had 26, 26, 24 and 24 recruits over the past 4 years and already have 26 recruits again this cycle...
