According to the average sports fan, sports science is irrelevant, because players should just be tougher and grittier, which would certainly overcome an early wake-up call or some other hindrance to performance.
Must be nice to live in such a binary world: the winning team was tougher and had more of a will to win, and that's that. Had the losing team been less grit-deficient, the result would have been different.
