I LOVE these posts. I went through the choice process with two kids, now both graduated. Done. No personal stake. But I'm addicted to the whole process. Keep poking my nose into any conversation when college choices are under discussion. Then, I keep checking in to see how the process is going. Might be building a creepy-stalker reputation, but, like I said, I'm an addict Luckily, most of the kids don't seem too annoyed. More taken aback that a neighbor or friend of their parents would care. It is, usually, the single most optimistic time in these kid's lives, full of possibility and hints of who these kids will become. Who wouldn't want to steal a little more time in that land, even if you are feeding off the dreams of others? So now, you are on The List.
RE the choices:
Mick: "Would not consider the University of Spoiled Children. Period. End of Story. Did not apply there"
Now you have proof, even if he goes on to become a mass murderer, that at least you raised him right.

I'm so jealous of his ocean-oriented options. All through my early schooling all I wanted to do in life was to go to the USNA. Dreamed, ate, played the U.S. Navy. By the time HS rolled around it was clear my Mr. Magoo vision had trumped all that. So I settled for Stanford. (rim shot). Although they are less well funded, the Coast Guard is probably one of the most satisfying services in which to have a career...if you like the work one does on a daily basis. I'd choose either one in a heartbeat if I had to do it all over again. I'm envious of any Navy or Coast Guard guy who gets to go to sea and get paid.
Thanks for sharing and update us immediately on each and every development, no matter how trivial. Really. I mean it. Don't you dare take your eye off the ball. People are depending on you.
