I have next to no experience with the service acadamies, though one of my son's teammates ended up at West Point and loved it.  He was the type of young man absolutely built for that experience, and it sounds like your son is as well. 

My brother in law was ROTC at Stanford and ended up flying jets in the Marines.  Loved the experience.  Best of luck to your son, and please let me know where he docks!
