I think the best description of the defense last night was "uneven". On the one hand, they had a couple great interceptions, including the pic-6 and Whitfield's athletic grab (you think he might have been a former wide receiver on that play), and we came up with key stops of the Bruins at key times. On the other hand, they had some really tough moments, like the blown coverage on the long touchdown drive, and their stats benefitted a lot from unforced Bruin errors -- drops and penalties. You wonder what the score might have been had the Bruins played a clean game.
I agree with WIM. Though not great at the moment, the future does look bright. Holder and Alfieri had break-out games. I saw Reid in there a lot. Even Lohn and Ratto had some nice plays in garbage time that make me a bit more comfortable about the depth at DL (it's now cardboard thin, instead of paper thin). Anderson and Davis should be back for UW.
But they will be challenged by WSU, Cal and Notre Dame (and if they ever figure it out, Oregon could still be dangerous).
