A couple things to refute here.
1. Travis Wilson as on par with Goff due to his PER.Â
Travis Wilson (and frankly, Utah in general) got to play Oregon. If you evaluate the ducks based on this year alone, they are not a good team, and won't be able to stop any competent offense. I don't know if you guys have been paying attention or are aware, but Oregon's pass "D" is on pace to be WORSE than Ca.l's last year. That is really hard to do. No team has ever been given more credit for beating a bad team than Utah over Oregon. It's Iron Pyrite.
2. Ca.l's close win vs. WSU reflects a low performance ceiling.
The fans were all looking forward to Utah, and though the players may have been thinking about WSU, it was a trap game for Ca.l. Football is an emotional game. It's really tough to beat an opponent geeked up for you when you aren't super excited to be playing them. Teams can get up emotionally for games 3-4 times a season tops. WSU was up for Ca.l because they saw Ca.l as a real shot at a win. Ca.l will bring that emotion to Utah tonight. Stanford has slept on the Cougs at home before too.
3. Dyke.s is not being factored in as a big game coach enough. The turning point for Ca.l in the WSU game was the onside kick call. At Texas he went for it on fourth down more than once. It paid off with a TD, and would have ended the game if not for a dropped pass. They also sealed the UW game with a first down on 4th. He has demonstrated adroit risk-taking and ability to come up with a fake FG, fake punt, or gadget play at the right time.
Ca.l may lose, but all the factors - Jared Goff is no doubt the biggest one, with an outsized impact - and all the stars are aligning perfectly for Ca.l to pull the upset.
