Kiffin has done a very good job keeping things together during the sanctions. Has nurtured that Us vs. the entire world mentality among the team. I\'ve never bought into the theory that USC would crash under the weight of the sanctions. They just won\'t be as dominant but I\'d be surprised if they were ever out of contention for the P12 championship game.
I\'m ditto on this. SC was very wily with their class of 2011: uncoupling the scholarship reductions and bowl restrictions via their appeal, then cherry picking some excellent LA HS talent and boosting with JCs. Helped to shore up their light 2009 class and the "free agent" defections of 2010.
They\'re only sans bowling for one more year while the scholarship reductions kick in. My 2 cents is they\'ll be in a bowl in 2012. Unlikely it will be a BCS one, but that carrot will be out there.
Given the dismal performance of the cohort of transfers last year (did any of them really succeed?) I wouldn\'t expect any real flurry of defections in the near term. I think the fainthearted have already fled the ship. Playing time and coaching attention should not be an issue.
Expect Kiffen pere & fils to be very sharp with their 15 schollies/ year. Wouldn\'t be surprised to see them go all quick trigger Saban on the medical releases the next 3 years either as they try to keep their numbers up.
Haden is charging ahead with his Xanadu style new athletic facilities, eased no doubt by our pending flush new TV contract. They still play in the Coliseum and they\'re still the only real football game in town.
In 2012 our quarterback will be just as green as theirs. Games against them will not be trivial. All the more reason to really savor 2011.
