Maryland is terrible. Wins vs. Richmond, USF. Losses to WVU and...wait for it...Bowling Green.
I just read through the entire play-by-play of the UMich-MD game. It's a comedy of errors. Michigan's D might be very legit, but it's hard to tell when they're defending against an offense that a) sports the record as mentioned above, and b) is as inept as the play-by-play makes them seem.Â
Conversely, Michigan's scores were all results of short fields, singularly explosive plays, or a combination of the two. The drive charts for both offenses would look ugly if I could find any. Michigan shanked an additional FG and then also punted on 4th down from the Maryland 35yd line (early in 4Q, up 21-0). Michigan QB Jake Rudock was 16-32 for 180yds, 1 TD, and 1 int. Not the hallmark of a great passing offense. Their top rusher carried 13 times for 68 yds and a TD (long of 20, score was 2nd-and-goal from the 1 yd line).
Michigan's offense is bad, and their defense could be good, but this game against Maryland is a superb performance against a terrible offense...caveat emptor.
