The official site says that Davis did not see action his freshman year. I suppose it is possible that is related to some previously undisclosed medical problem.

Also, I cannot find the text of the rule right now. Usually Terry will chime in before long with the exact wording. My memory is that this is a hardship waiver, and hardship is not fully defined but clearly can include two years of injury and explicitly does not include a simple choice to redshirt. But that is only from memory.
