Whether she shies away from the controversy is not the point. There are many forces at Stanford that would work strongly against her appointment. I doubt if the trustees are interested in making an appointment that would touch off a civil war on campus.

I guess that permanently disqualifies me from ever being a trustee because Condi is exactly the type of person I'd want as school president.  It would bring out those whose opposition is purely political and not due to ability.
