The move is towards more conference games, not fewer, especially as strength of schedule becomes an issue for the playoffs.  Moreover, since the Pac-12 is the most geographically isolated Big5 conference, it would not be a trivial task to find quality OOC opponents to fill the gap. What Dykes really wants is to downgrade his strength of schedule.  That makes sense when you are trying to get your sixth win to make a bowl game, but harms top teams looking to get into the playoffs.  Also, I'd much rather play home and homes with conference rivals than with random schools, especially if they are lower tier OOC opponents.
