[Renaissance Man]

I saw almost everything of note last year.  I gave up on trying to understand what makes a movie award-worthy long ago.  I thought Birdman and Boyhood both had merit but were overrated. Simmons was great in Whiplash.  My favorites of the past year were Begin Again, Imitation Game, Edge of Tomorrow -- one of the rare instances where the movie was better than the book (although the book's title, All You Need is Kill, was much better, and the video release, Live, Die, Repeat is an improvement over EOT, but still weak) and Guardians of the Galaxy.
