I remember wanting to get home so badly to eat dinner after practice that it was all about getting the gear off and back into your clothes as fast as possible.  The idea of putting on the same grimy practice pants and jerseys several days in a row seems barbaric now, but the school only washed game jerseys.  We had to take our practice stuff home to wash if we ever wanted it washed, and teenage boys aren't going to clean their practice jerseys every day.  I suppose with all the vulcanized rubber fields these days its not quite so bad as when everyone practiced on grass, dirt, and mud.
