As notable as the depth and the talent at the top is the other schools we're beating out. We just got a kid from Louisiana to pick us over LSU. That's mind-boggling to me.
Solomon Thomas signed with Stanford, despite an offer from Texas. Noor Davis and Reilly Gibbons signed with Stanford, despite offers from all of the Big 3 in Florida. Jordan Watkins signed with Stanford, despite offers from everywhere, including in-state UGA. Pulling kids away from the hometown favorite is not so uncommon for Stanford anymore. There was a time when Stanford's competition was the hometown favorite (wherever that might be for a particular recruit) and the University of Dead Fake Girlfriends (the other national recruiting school). Now Stanford's main recruiting obstacle (as well as its best recruiting asset) is its own admissions office.

Thomas notwithstanding, we still struggle beating Texas for Texas recruits. We have also historically struggled getting Michigan and Ohio recruits away from Michigan and Ohio State, respectively.
