I think this projection pretty much captures the anti-Newton factor already. Â
If Newton is innocent, and his Dad is just sleezy, then Newton deserves this award.
I can\'t help but think that the Voldemort may be looking squarely at their next returned award. Â At least then Bush will have company.

Even if Cam knew nothing, the rules will still clearly trip him up since his father is benefiting materially from their relationship and Cam\'s status.

Actually, it doesn\'t matter if Cam\'s father got money or not. Â If he simply asked for money, Cam would be ineligible to play.

ESPN had a FABULOUS show on Marcus Dupree  The Superstar Who Never Was  on  Sunday.  Showed his roots in Mississippi, the madness of his recruitment,  his stellar freshman year at Oklahoma and his departure from the the team.  All the time a pastor was counseling him, trying to get him to consider Southern Mississippi.  When Dupree left OU and just disappeared,  the pastor was counseling him.  Got him to transfer to Southern Miss  without telling Dupree that he\'d sit out a year,  then got him to stay on campus to workout for the NFL.  NFL wouldn\'t touch a sophomore, so then the pastor negotiated a deal with
The Breakers of the USFL. Â (Breakers\' GM non other than Randy Vataha). Then as Dupree\'s agent, Â he managed his money pretty much into oblivion. Â Â Some pastor. Â Dupree was badly injured, worked his way back for one season with the Rams, then retired. Â Drives trucks for a living. Â
Great show, btw, Â if you get a chance to see it. Â

Yeah, there was some thought that Vince Young would just step in and be awarded the Voldemort since he was second place in the voting (and since he showed he was the best player in the nation in the BCS Championship Game). But, much to the chagrin of Texas fans, that didn\'t happen. I can\'t imagine it happening for Luck either, but we can certainly campaign for it when the time comes. It sure doesn\'t hurt to keep saying/writing the words "Voldemort" and "Stanford" in the same sentence!

Â I have to think that, in my limited exposure to sports thus far, there have been countless such stories about super-athletes who have fallen victim to some confluence of fate and personal foibles...

Saw that Marcus Dupree story (on E-60 perhaps?), Redrum, and it was fantastic/sad. Â My son watched it with me, and there were plenty of good lessons in it for him.

The Marcus Dupree documentary is part of the 30 for 30 series. Most of the series is excellent and the Best That Never Was was probably the best one I\'ve seen. And if you want to know if Dupree was the real deal, watch this documentary. I think they said he scored on a 60+ yard touchdown run in four consecutive games. And the highlights are unreal. It\'s too bad his career happened in the 80s. If he had played today, he would have at least been saved from the playing with a concussion and through his hampstring issues that eventually lead to his debilitating knee injury in the USFL. I\'m not sure if he would have been saved from his pastor or family.

30 for 30 is an awesome series. The U, the Best that Never Was, The Two Escobars, Ali-Holmes, Unmatched (Evert-Navratolova), The Band that Wouldn\'t Die (Baltimore Colts) and the Reggie Miller episode are my favorites. Â The Two Escobars could have been shown in theaters, it was that good.
I came away from the Dupree episode think that he is a well-adjusted, productive member of society. He really doesn\'t seem bitter about anything.

Well, if we\'re into plugging various 30 for 30 episodes, I thought the Allen Iverson doc was pretty excellent. (It was done by the same director who did Hoop Dreams, which is also a superb documentary.)
