I didn't see it but I heard that he wasn't running full speed. The surgeon was surprised too. But, it happened. When he saw it on the x-ray, he called in the whole staff to take a look at it. My son's knee cap split into two halves and that was the only damage.

Wow! How do you repair that sort of injury? The lack of soft tissue damage was certainly a blessing but that is a lot for a 13 year old to deal with. I hope your son came through this and out the other side at full strength.

He had to have two surgeries. In the first, they put in titanium screws to hold the knee cap together while it healed. In the second, they removed the screws. He was able to walk a week or two after the first surgery with a special splint. They didn't put him in a cast for some reason. The next year he tried out for basketball, but sucked at it. There has been no lasting physical or emotional problems.

I assume the Buckeyes may be a backup as Thomas waits for the admissions process to work out. But if he chooses to go elsewhere, then he's not right for this very unique place.

Garnett wasn't good friends with the guy who was recruiting him to michigan. They met at some camp but they are hardly close friends. All these kids make friends at the camps they attend but for the most part when kids are a package deal it's because they are at the same HS, they are family, or a combination of both.
