Sad Day in Stanford Football History

Yep, they will no doubt bring in someone who does know how to coach.
I was really hoping he'd do just well enough to keep his job.
Besides, who are we going to have to kick around?

Has there ever been another US'C coach to play at least 3 games against Stanford and not gain a single victory?
Hopefully they don't find someone competent to fill his shoes.
One question I have: where in the football world can Kiffin land? What is he actually good at?

Cashiered the same week his boss said he "is the right man for the job."
I guess that changes when you give up 62 points.

The reports are that he was fired by Haden on the plane ride home. Stone cold move.
I think they were better off waiting until the sanctions expired before finding a new coach. All this talk of money and tradition will not overcome the shambles the program is in and the restrictions. If I was Haden, I'd hand the job to one of the assistants for the time being. Maybe he thought at least they won't do something as stupid as having Marqise Lee handle punts.

I know that it has happened before, but I thought there was this unwritten rule these days that Pac-12 teams did not poach other Pac-12 teams head coaches.
Is there? We will see if U$C goes after Sarkisian.

Mike Garrett was the AD at the time, and he apparently gave a brobdingnagian contract in terms of $ and years, the terms of which I don't believe were ever known because U$C is a private institution and doesn't have to release them. Every year we played against Kiffen I always wondered how long that contract was written for.Â

Nope. Pulled off the team bus and fired in the airport parking lot. Left his bags on the bus, too.
Pat Haden: "Because I couldn't resist out-dicking our dick coach."

I really was hoping that Kiffin would be the coach there forever. After the high of Saturday night's Stanford win, this is a really hard way to start Sunday morning.
Please clear the field! The game is not over!

I'm not sure why this is a dick move. If you know you're going to fire a guy, I think the best thing to do is to do it face to face the first chance you get. Why wait until Sunday morning? At the airport is the best way.

If true there must be a Berkely exception. Off the top of my head, Bruce Snyder to Arizona State and Tosh Lupoi to UW both left against Ca'ls wishes.
In 1938 Neville Chamberlain declared "Peace in our time", Superman first appeared in Action Comics, Seabiscuit beat War Admiral ....... and C.a.l last won the Rose Bowl.

The best thing about this is our direct role in the sack of Troy and Kiffin. Obviously, there is the Harbaugh-Carroll rivalry and the "What's Your Deal?" games, no need to rehash that again here. Perhaps a little more subtle though is the effect our o-line recruiting had on USC, or as I like to call it our 900 lb Trojan Horse.Â
Arguably USC's biggest weakness last year was the offensive line, which was exposed in our game last year where Barkley had no time to throw downfield to Woods or Lee. The loss of Matt Khalil to the NFL and Khaled Holmes to injury hampered them all year, and eventually led to Barkley's shoulder injury when he was hammered from his blind-side in the UCLA game. This year, their poor o-line play has again led to a stagnant offense despite a stable of talented flashy skill players. Everywhere else, USC is fairly well-stocked (hard to judge the QB position when they have no time to throw).
The best part about this is knowing that we took not just 1, not 2, but ALL 3 brobdingnagian o-line recruits (Peat, Garnett, and Murphy) away from USC when they were all reportedly considering USC down to the last day. It is clear that Peat would be an upgrade at LT for them, and I have no doubt that Murphy would have been as well. But instead, the Three Horsemen ride with us, helping to send Lane Kiffin's career into the apocalypse.Â

Defensive-minded underachieving NFL coach worked well for them the last time. If they want to follow that path, Jack Del Rio is the logical choice.
Your leading candidates with their hypthetical reactions:
Chris Petersen (No, thanks unless you change your colors and make the field blue.)
James Franklin (Yes! Getting out of dodge before Vanderbilt implodes.)
Jack Del Rio (Yes, so I can eventually follow Pete Carroll's path to NFL success)
Jake Fisher (Who? Are you confusing me with my brother Jeff?)
Greg Roman (No. Harbs will kill me.)
Kevin Sumlin (I'm taking the Texas job.)
Sarkisian (Yes. You should have hired me the last time.)
Pat Fitzgerald: (No. You might as well ask David Shaw.)
