Regarding football, you're right that we don't get those 45 points, but those 45 points didn't end up counting in our total last year. Heck, we dropped a 64 from men's tennis because we had so many other good scores. So, yes, football's goose egg is worse than last year, but it's at the margins where it likely wouldn't have mattered anyway. The most important takeaway from the first set of standings is that in the two sports that are likely to count at the end of the year (men's and women's cross country), we increased our total over last year by 8.5 points.
We look like we're in good shape with the remaining fall sports, too.
* Men's water polo got us 90 points last year, and they'll finish at least in 3rd place this year (which would be 85, I believe)
* Women's soccer got us 83 points last year (lost in semi), and they can't do worse than that this year.
* Men's soccer got us 73 points last year (lost in quarters), and they can't do worse than that this year
* Women's volleyball got us 100 points last year, and while a repeat is always hard, we look pretty darn good. At least to get a big number, even if it's not 100 again.
Titles from MWP and WSOC would net us 27 points over last year's total. Losses in the final for both would net us 7 points over last year's total. Semifinal losses for both teams would see a net loss of 5 points over last year's standings, which would mean we're still 3.5 points ahead of last year's pace (at least, in terms of sports that are likely to be counted), however. Getting a net cushion out of the fall would be very useful as I don't expect women's tennis to repeat the 100 they gave us last year. (A good number, sure, but a step back nonetheless.) We should expect one of the other national championship teams to drop off as well. Last year was crazy.
