A favorable closing schedule still has us in prime position to win Pac-12 regular season title. Only 5 remaining road games (at lowly LA schools and Washington schools), and at Cal.

No return trip to Oregon schools this year.

Those lowly LA schools pretty much held their own against us at Maples.

I hope to be at both games, but my vocal cords alone won't generate a single point.

I have to remember to never watch one of these lives streams again. Painful.

My favorite part was when Wilson made a bucket and the announcer attributed it to "Russel."

Erika loves Stanford. She was recruited by Stanford but never offered. Not mad. Lol

But her teams never played well vs Stanford.

I told her to have fun today and have faith.

The foul calls are so horrible.  Just horrible

The officiating crew was InFini Robinson, Kyle Bacon, Lisa Jones.
I know that Kyle Bacon has gotten our attention before (here, here, and here)

Our three point defense is a direct result of the loss of Fingall and Dodson.  We need to sag and collapse in the paint to protect Smith from getting fouls which leaves three point shooters open.

Gotta be tough on Alanna. We need her to score 20+ points a game,  be our defensive stopper,  help out, but don't commit fouls

Thanks for sharing (assuming you are related to Erika).  Wish she had had a career day against someone else, but thats the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. Congratulations and good luck to her. Utah is the story of the Pac-12 this year.

Alanna does have to carry a heavy load.  But it won't be as heavy when Dodson comes back.  Now that she has learned our team defense, Maya is a very good defender.  She moves very well laterally, is strong and has really long arms.  She is a very intimidating shot blocker which causes opposing posts and slashing guards to second guess themselves when she is in the paint.

We tend to lose in pretty predictable ways.  If Smith gets in foul trouble, we need to collapse our defense to protect her which leads to wide open threes for the other team.  If they hit them fairly well, then we are in trouble and vulnerable to losing.  Pretty much the story of this game.

But we have only lost twice. Theres not a " tend to"  or trend there

yes exactly. and they've both been close losses.

Not complaining just trying to understand why so little information regarding player injury is made available to us. Is it Govt Privacy rules, competitive advantage ala hockey or just plain Stanford preference.  Obviously, the importance of Maya’s return to this season has triggered my curiosity.

Hippa  laws

The privacy of student athletes is doubly protected.  HIPPA is the 20+ year old health privacy act, FERPA is the 40+ year old student privacy act.  I'm not a lawyer but it seems to me as if both have been featured much more prominently at my university in recent years.  My guess is that caselaw has grown and developed and universities are doing a much more comprehensive job of enforcing student privacy than they did a while ago.

sort of.

hipaa prevents medical professionals and facilities from releasing confidential health information. ferpa prevents universities.

i believe that neither prevents the student from releasing health information herself.

it is my impression that, in college as in the pros, many coaches firmly request that players not reveal their injuries - presumably to make it harder for opponents to prepare for games.

Curious: What is different from announcing that nadia is out for the season with torn ACL as opposed to  Maya's injury

No difference. In both cases Tara shared only as much information as (a) the athlete gave her permission to share (the rules require that) and (b) Tara felt it was appropriate to share. So for both we got some information but not all.

We did hear that Maya is expected back soon. So it seems her issue isn't believed to be serious. Let's hope that's correct and that it doesn't recur.

one difference is that if the athlete is out for the season, other teams don't plan to defend her. if an athlete may or may not play, the opposing team has to plan for both possibilities.
