On a national level, he got a ton of negative publicity (Stanford fans were much more understanding of his decision than the general public) and the number one question he gets asked about at the combine is that decision.  I don't think his decision played out like he planned, and he probably wishes that he showed up for his final 3 practices and final game with his college.

Interesting perspective. My personal observation was that the general public seemed much more understanding and sympathetic toward McCaffrey than the Stanford community.

I think there was disappointment in the Stanford community but not vitriol around his decision. There is so much respect for CMac in the Stanford community that those who talked negatively about his decision shrouded the discussion around an overall appreciation of him. I listened to a lot sports talk radio, talk shows and blogs for other teams and the tone toward CMac was much more negative in my opinion than I saw on Stanford boards.  The Michigan board that I visit had a longer thread on the topic and more negative comments than our board.  People were concerned that he was leading the beginning of the end of college football with players pulling out mid-season as soon as they were out of the national championship race.  CMac got so much blowback that I don't think you are going to see a lot of copycats.

Broad jump: Kamara 10-11, McCaffrey 10-1, Cook 9-8, Fournette DNP.

It will be interesting to see McCaffrey's performance in the shuttle runs, which presumably play to his strengths in acceleration and change of direction.

I don't think his 40, Vertical Jump and Broad Jump results move the needle either way, he put up good numbers as expected but not wow! numbers, but not disappointing numbers either.

I'm interested to see his official 40. If it's closer to 4.59 than 4.49, that won't help him. But he's been getting a lot of love for his positional drills today.

Official 40 times:

McCaffrey 4.48
Cook 4.49
Fournette 4.51
Kamara 4.56

McCaffrey's time was tied for third fastest (of 28 who ran, including a few FB).

He's also been the gold standard in all the on-field drills so far. Not much talk of his 10 bench reps today.

I would say McCaffrey has solidified himself as a first round pick today.  He ran the sub 4.5 he needed and was impressive in the on-field drills.  A little surprising no RB was sub 4.4 on the day.

T.J. Logan of UNC had the fastest official time (4.37).

I wouldn't go so far as to say that he has solidified himself as a first round pick but he definitely didn't run himself out of it. Indeed, Mayock, Faulk and the other NFL Network analysts were extremely effusive about him in drills. I believe that even if the combine was shown in silhouette that cardboard posters would be able to pick out McCaffrey. He has a distinctive style that separates him from the other RBs, extremely tight around the cones and very smooth catching the ball.

NFL.com's schedule shows the RBs doing 3-cones and shuttles at 3:00 Eastern. It's now 3:32 Eastern and no sign of that. Did I miss something?

Sorry, was looking at the 40 times of the top RB prospects, and I saw Logan run a 4.37 and then a 4.55, which was a bit bizarre, so I figured that time wasn't correct.  Serves me right for commenting without the full context.

Still, I stand by my contention McCaffrey solidified his first round selection today.
