Has anyone else become aware of or surprised by the number of football players in the last five years or so that have had medical issues with their feet? Maybe I wasn't paying attention previously, but it seems to me foot injuries have become more of a problem. Am I wrong about this? If not, what's behind the injuries?

Could size contribute? Seems players have gotten heavier in the past several years. I am not a doctor but seems the feet and ankles have a lot of bones and tendons in them. Could it be a factor of too much stress from more weight than a body was designed for?

Bill Walton and the other NBA centers with chronic foot injuries supports that argument.
In 1938 Neville Chamberlain declared "Peace in our time", Superman first appeared in Action Comics, Seabiscuit beat War Admiral ....... and C.a.l last won the Rose Bowl.

Like others on this thread, foot issues have been really a major issue with basketball big men (wasn't this an issue for Yao Ming, as well? I might be wrong there). not sure about football, but it makes some sense to me that size, and the stress placed on the foot, could be a factor

Yao's issues stemmed from his size (and therefore weight/stress placed on his feet) and also his early regimen of training back in the nearly-literal Stone Age of Chinese elite sport physiology: they made everyone run--a lot. You may guess that centers don't do so well when running as much as guards need to run. I would trace all his foot/leg-related medical issues to the amount of stress placed on his legs by constant running in China.
To the topic at hand, the evolution of bigger, faster (more powerful) players has placed greater strain on athletes' feet as a link in the chain of power transmission from athlete to ground.
