Stanford Junior Day yielded its first commit of the recruiting season,  Virginia safety Alex Carter, 6\'1", 185 lbs.  committed after back to back visits to Kal and Stanford this weekend.   Smart kid.   Actually, he IS a smart kid.  Carries a 4.1 gpa and a 1200 (2 part) SAT.   Makes him a good bet for admission.

No rankings or ratings this early in the recruiting cycle,  but the offers look very good. Notre Dame, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Boston College, Cal, West Virginia ,Kansas State, Vanderbilt, Duke.  Both regional reporters for Scout and Rivals describe him as elite in their regions.

I\'m just pleased David Shaw is continuing the tradition of signaling commits with veiled tweets. Sadly, unlike his predecessor, they aren\'t psychedelic or strange. There\'s still time, David.

Not only does he have a 1200 two-part SAT, but he did it as a sophomore.  :)

My typical response to news like this is:  "Good, we could always use more DBs."  I still had that reaction, but it was quickly followed by: "Man, we have an awesome pair of safeties."  I haven\'t been following Stanford football for too long, but I\'ve never had the luxury of a thought like that before.  It felt... nice  ;)

he\'ll be switching to CB just like Barry Browning did.  Most top CBs play S in high school since it provides more value to their team.
