"I'm not worried" - martyup - 09-26-2015

Last night I didn't feel worried after Hogan's interception, and I said so in the game thread.  Well, OSU converted the turnover into a TD and I was accused of woofing.  I just want to clarify this issue so that I don't ever run afoul of the Woofing Gods.

I will also note that you didn't utter it in the second half, and we performed much better.  Jacketree and Yvonne are the resident woofing police so they can tell you, but my attitude is that you can never be too careful.  If you have to ask, it is probably woofing.

I didn't utter it in the second half because I WAS worried.  But, someone else did say it and we still played well.  So . . .

If it is woofing, I wonder if it was uttered a few days before a game it would be treated the same.  ::)

I think it was said as a matter of fact.  It was not bluster and bravado.  I took it to be a statement of confidence in the current game's feel for martyup and was offered up, I presume, to give succor to those of us who may not have been as comfortable at that moment.  Only martyup can describe his own state of mind.  It isn't as if he was telling all of us that there was, in fact, nothing nerve-wracking going on.

Most times when I join a game in progress, my team (Stanford, Warriors, 49ers [well, not so much anymore]) seems to blow it.  This summarizes how I feel sometimes when I turn on the TV.  Woofing gods do exist and they are sometimes influential.

Interesting philosophical question: is it only "woofing" if it is intended to be woofing? or is there an objective definition of "woofing" linked to the words uttered, regardless of the mindset of the speaker? Is it possible for the "Woofing Gods" to misinterpret innocent words for "woofing"? or, as Gods, can we expect them to be omniscient and so be able to distinguish between woofing and mere confidence intended to reassure other mortals? 

Given that each game is vital to the effort to win the Pac-12, maybe such points need to be clarified.  ;)

Excellent thoughts.  It may behoove us to find a human link to the woofing gods such that issues such as this can be resolved.  We mere mortals need guidance and deliverance and redemption.  Perhaps there is among us a High Priestess of Woofing who could be our spiritual guide to living pure and unwoofed existences.  Yvonne has seemed to be the person most deeply infused with woofing wisdom.  She can probably give us the answers to the questions you pose.  Please, Yvonne, if you hear our desperate cries, share with us your woofing insights!

It think perhaps some are confusing woofing with jinxing.  Saying, "I think he will make this FG" just before a kick might be considered a jinx, but it clearly is not woofing.
