opponents' sacks - TrumpCard - 09-26-2015

Stanford has achieved a pretty remarkable streak of QB "health."  Stanford's 1st string QB has played in every game but one (the 2009 Sun Bowl) since the beginning of the 2009 season.  It helps that Stanford's QBs during the streak (Luck, Nunes, and Hogan) are all big, tough athletes who have been able to take some big hits without suffering injury or at least without missing games.  Lately, however, the steak seems more precarious.  During the Luck era, I hardly ever worried about a QB injury because opposing teams just didn't get very many hits on Luck.  During the 09, 10, and 11 seasons combined, Stanford gave up a total of 24 sacks.  Since then, Stanford has surrendered 64 sacks, which is still pretty good, but more than double the prior rate.  With the line appearing to gel more every game, I really hope that we see a return to Luck era sack totals so that Hogan can finish out the year in good health.

I would just go with the burger until things settle down.

But what is a hamburger, chopped ham? No, it's chopped steak! Why not use A-1 Steak Sauce?

And it appears we will have more of the same going forward.  Chryst seems to be very much built like Luck.

The offensive line's role in preventing sacks is somewhat exaggerated.  Yes we had some good offensive lines back then, but we also had an exceptional QB at avoiding sacks.  Luck had an awesome ability to step up in the pocket and find his second or third receiver if his first one was covered.  And then there was that scrambling ability... Hogan has the scrambling ability, but doesn't have quite the sixth sense that Luck did.
