Scarlett, Shittu and the DL (again) - OutsiderFan - 09-26-2015

I'm guessing Shittu suffered a much more severe high ankle sprain than Hogan.  And they were looking at Scarlett's knee?

I don't question the toughness of anybody who plays football, but the odds of these guys staying healthy this season given their track records, was fantastically low. They made it through three games, and Shittu basically only played 1.5 games since he was out in second half against NU, was ejected in first half against UCF, and was out against OSU in the second half.

Thomas played pretty well, but so too did Lohn, and Watkins got more snaps last night that maybe his whole Stanford career?  But the fact is Stanford never played more than 2 DL at once the whole second half, IIRC.

I know they want to redshirt Annan.  But honestly, how can they afford to at this point?  Down to just three DL, don't you have to play Annan now?  I mean Lohn was already dinged this year and perish the thought if Thomas goes down.  You want Annan to have had at least a few snaps before he's counted on, don't you?

Is there good reason to believe Shittu has a high ankle sprain, and Scarlett a knee injury?

Not DL, but did Murphy end up returning to the game after that early injury?

Shittu walked gingerly off the field and the trainers didn't appear to check out his knee when he was down on the field.  I saw on another site someone said Cameron was talking to Brennan in sweats, with a trainer looking at his knee, but honestly I don't remember seeing Scarlett in the game at all, even at the start.

Murphy came back in later to be burned on the Villiamin TD, and was replaced by Holder.

Re: Scarlett, Shittu and the DL (again) - ChicagoCard - 09-26-2015

Well, yeah, both Murphys were banged up. Or would that be Murphies. Just kidding.

So was Brennan's knee immobilized? I think the tweets I saw just mentioned his being in street clothes so maybe that's a good sign (if he was able to walk around normally). When Shaw was asked about Brennan he said "same thing" and I was hoping that meant ankle. But probably he meant, neither Shittu nor Scarlett could push off.

After the game, Todd Husak said Brennan was walking around normally and Aziz had a limp FWLIW.

You're doing an awful lot of guessing and speculating based on very little information.  And it sounds like you're questioning decisions the coaches are making, when they have a lot more information than you do.

Re: Scarlett, Shittu and the DL (again) - OutsiderFan - 09-26-2015

Speculation is the lifeblood of sports fan message boards.  And am I not allowed to question?

OK, just re-watched game.  I'm going to SPECULATE Murphy will be fine.  The last play he was in was Wright's second TD run.  He went over to celebrate with his teammates after executing his cut block, and didn't appear to be injured at all, so doesn't seem like any reason to worry about him.

Scarlett actually played more than I noticed. He appeared to injure himself on OSU's first TD drive inside the red zone.  He appeared to try jumping up to block a pass and came down maybe awkwardly.  He walked off the field without much of a limp.

Shittu tweeted he'll be alright.

So did Phillips.

Phillips didn't walk off under his own power.

Not claiming I know the extent of the injury but as a matter of fact, neither did Shittu.

Shaw said at his presser both were similar high ankle injuries.

Re: Scarlett, Shittu and the DL (again) - TrumpCard - 09-26-2015

Winflop, when talking about Scarlett (immediately after talking about Shittu), Shaw said "same thing," but unless you heard something more that I didn't, it's not clear that meant "same part of body injured."  It could have meant same inability to push off the injured leg.

Re: Scarlett, Shittu and the DL (again) - socalstanfan1 - 09-26-2015

I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic that these guys do not, at this point, have season-ending injuries.  But I also wouldn't rely on them for next week.  If there is any silver lining to this it would be that while these guys rehab their injuries, everyone else below them on the depth chart, I assume, gets a bit more practice time at a higher level.  Maybe Lohn and Watkins get more time with the first team D in practice, and Annan moves up the pecking order, too.  The DL seems destined to be a constantly shifting (re) Construction Zone this year.  Anderson will continue to need to make use of all his LBs to fill in gaps and make this work.

Man, Perez had a bad game.  I'm guessing he will not see as much playing time unless he picks it up.

Yes I interpreted "same thing" to mean a high ankle like Shittu.

Martyup, I heard you the first three times.  The redshirt freshman didn't do well in your opinion.
