So, no one has the Valls? U.S.C. prediction Thread? -
Rally - 09-14-2015
Since I have recently annoyed several of the hierarchy here I am trying to be PC. So, what is the PC version of "Balls" in this context? I settled on Valls, a contraction of vagina and balls (can I get in trouble for saying contraction in this context?) but could as easily been vulpis (I was going to explain that but then realized I am writing for the best and brightest). What do you think? Open to suggestions. In the mean while, let's prognosticate. And while you're at it, chime in on the appropriate word for what you know I mean but no longer can say. What a world? My pick later.

Whomever locked up Shaw & Bloomgren at halftime on Saturday refuses to let them out until Sark goes into rehab, the PartyInTheBackfield 4.0 has its way with an undermanned & overmatched Trojan OL, and the Mad Russian does his best Andre Heidari and silences the crowd at the gun.

LOVE IT, Who is the Mad Russian? My bad for not knowing.

Guessing he is referring to Ukoprinia, given that Andre Heidari beat us at home last year as time expired.
As for the score? My head says USC 27, Stanford 13. My heart says Stanford 17, USC 10.
I'll let you know what I decide closer to game time.

Stanford 33 $C 13
$C comes in overconfident, fresh off wins over the mighty Arkansas State and Idaho. Stanford arrives motivated and well prepared, much like its visit to a touted LA-domiciled squad in 2014. TV cameras pan across the despairing faces of the spoiled children as the clock ticks to zero.
Some of Stanford's "fans" are nearly as shocked as the spoiled children. They have forgotten that Stanford is guided by a coach that competed for a Rose Bowl 1.5 years ago. This coach has had such defensive success that fans have dubbed him "Shawderson" out of respect for his defensive prowess. These fans extrapolate from a 1.5 game sample size, ignoring the effects of random chance on a game in which twenty-two 18-23 year-old young adults repeatedly ram one another. This coach cares primarily about developing these young adults into people that will have a positive impact on the world and make their university proud; he will also coach them to a W on Saturday.
The drubbing re-ignites discussion of Sark's extracurricular activities, and reminds the spoiled children that they are coached by a man who failed to surpass 7 wins in any of his illustrious seasons @ Washington.

Stanford wins. I don't care what score. Just win the bloody game. (And suffer no injuries.)
Sidenote: As is recent somewhat-consistent tradition, we're hosting our local watch parties in the same bar (but not the same seating area, there's a wall) as the U$C alumni club. Part of this is because every bar in town will be focused on the Texas-kal game, and getting a bar to show a Pac-12 matchup can be tough (also, parking, seating, etc. works at this bar). Out of the blue comes a snarky post from a recent grad who hasn't shown up in at least a year first asking if we'd be sharing the bar with U$C, and then declaring that s/he/it won't be coming to the watch party because of the likely game result and co-location.
Way to publicly crap on an event hosted by volunteer alumni when you never even show up to any events. And I guess upsets never happen. Siiiiigh.
Also, I'm cordial with a couple of the $C alumni young alum poobahs. Their fanbase here isn't that insufferable (maybe because we're far removed from the safety of California numbers).Â
Stanford can still win!

Being a volunteer alum is often thankless enough without having snarky comments from non-engaged young know-it-alls. I feel your pain. We have had a few "joint viewings" and S.C. alumni have been way more civil than Cal alumni (if we sat far away from them in brobdingnagian stadiums, why would we want to sit WITH them in a cramped bar?).
Here's to another upset at the coliseum. Cheers!

Not particularly optimistic about this game, but since it doesn't cost anything to be wrong.

It's because $C fans here remember their greatest-team-of-the-regular-season got whupped in a natty. And as mentioned before, there's no safety in large numbers here...not that many $C alumni out here. But there are more than there are Stanford alumni, I'm sure. I find that crazed fans, when removed from the safety of their fellow crazies, sober up and realize that they are somewhat alone...

The university I went to: 27
The university I almost went to: 20
My head says otherwise but I have to follow my heart.Â
I have a vision of 4 tight ends packed in tight, 3 to one side, one to the other with Cajuste out wide. Power and counter runs from this formation 3 times for modest gains, then a crossing route hit to Cotton or Taboada, another counter in the third qtr. then in the fourth Cajuste blasts the go route and leaps over as defender for a beautiful TD.

If we have 4 tight ends and Cajuste in the formation, who is carrying the ball on these Power and Counter runs?

Hogan. He can do it. I saw him carry the ball--and the team--against Oregon one wondrous night, years ago...
