They needed $5,000, but thought they could scrounge $3,000. So, they asked for $2,000, and got $13,396 in one day.

I'm glad he's getting support. I can't imagine, though, what kind of pressure that puts on him to succeed--first, as a representative of his part of Memphis, then to honor his mother, and then to make good on all the hopes and contributions that generous strangers have donated. I hope Stanford is everything to him as it was for all of us.

I can understand how the kid feels when he says, We didnt have anything our whole lives, and we still dont have anything right now but he has a full ride to one of the best universities in the world ahead of him.
I'm sure that's not where his head is at, but I hope he gets there.
