Tyner was Oregon's second-leading returning rusher.

Great HS sprinter early FB phenom. A shame

From the UW game last year to only just now having surgery? Did the docs take that long to make up their mind, or was it a wait-and-see thing that just never got better? :( Oregon is getting its pound of flesh and then some from its players...
Royce Freeman is probably now the undisputed starter, and at 5'11" 230lbs listed, he'll be a load to handle. The real question is whether any second-stringers have developed. Maybe Byron Marshall would move back to RB.

It is a shame: Tyner has struggled with injuries his whole career. However, UO's running back situation this year is similar to its WR situation last year with lots of young talent who just didn't have game experience. It seemed to work our pretty well for them.
There is no one with the size/elite speed combo of Tyner, but they've got two speed backs of the 5-10 180 variety with 10.5 track speed: RSFr Tony James-Brooks who was the scout team MVP last year after recovering from a knee injury late in his HS career, plus true FR Taj Griffin who was a 4/5 star but blew out a knee in the first game of his senior HS year. Both have been burdened with that 'next DeAnthony Thomas' label, but that's the Ducks problem. They also have RS So, Kani Benoit who is Tyner sized @ 6' 210 and a hard & nifty runner, but without Tyner's top end speed.
Ducks get back their leading WR from 2013, Bralon Addison, so that will allow them to slip Byron Marshall back into more RB carries as well (as noted by others).
If we're looking for meaningful dropoff for Ducks it's going to have to come from the QB position. Lockie's boffo spring game statistics more a function of dump passes to Charles Nelson who turned them into long touchdowns that any great performance by him. In subbing in for Mariota he appeared greatly over matched on every occasion.

Well, there are other rays of hope.
The OL loses three starters from the NCG: Grasu, Fisher, and Stevens.
They're also down a few defenders.

Of course this is all cumulative. Like Hemingway said, decay happens gradually...then all at once.
Well, except when it happens all at once -- the difference between Oregon's offense with their LT and without last year was pretty stunning.
