McCaffrey jersey number change - thunder_chik - 08-04-2015

OK, I haven't been hanging out on this board too much over the summer... noticed Christian McC is now wearing #5, not #27.  Does anyone know the story behind the switch?  (That's Evan Crower's old number, I believe).

in high school he was #5

Thanks for that tidbit, 82lsju.  I know high school and college jersey number protocol is less rigid than the NFL, but I usually think of #5 as a quarterback's number.  Might we see CMc lining up in the wildcat this fall, hmmmm?  IMHO, #27 was a better number.  5 makes me think of Golson and that guy with the dead fake girlfriend.

Ah, that reminds me.

Had dinner with a guy last night who grew up in North Dakota, well aware of the heroics of his fellow North Dakotan, Roger Maris.  He said that Maris was the greatest athlete in America that year, and set a record that never has been touched: Five kickoff returns for touchdown in a single game.

Well, I hope McCaffrey never has to return 5 kick offs in one game, but if he does . . . watch out Roger!

Lovely story, but unable to substantiate that record.  Wikipedia lists Maris's (still standing) high school record as 4 TD returns in one game=2 KO returns, 1 punt return, one pick-6.  I remember Roger as a great baseball player.  Died young of Hodgkins disease.

Never let the facts get in the way of a great story.

I wonder who won the game.  The other team scored pts.

Gets me to wondering what the Stanford record is for single-game return points (who, opponent, year, yards, what combo of KO, punt, interception?).  GoStanford site only lists KO return for TD (1, multiple players, most recent was Ty Montgomery @ Utah 2013).  Interesting stat is most punt returns in a single game, 13 (or 14, depending on your source) by Phil Moffatt in 1930 vs. Dartmouth.  Probably hadn't invented the fair catch rule yet, LOL.

Troy Walters suggests using Irish Spring.
