OT: Worst Locker Room Cancers -
Mick - 08-02-2015
For no particular reason, I started thinking about locker room cancers, egotistical, me-first athletes of ability who can't spell "team," who don't get along with players, coaches, fans or reporters (or alumni, if we're talking college).
Who were the worst locker room cancers you've ever heard of?
Just because I happen to be thinking about quarterbacks, let's start with Jeff George, Ryan Leaf, maybe throw in Vince Young. Brett Favre? Anyone?

"Me-Sean" Jackson. Of course, I had no problem with him being a carcinogen.

Terrell Owens. I so wanted to like this guy after big catches with the 49ers early in his career and then he somehow turned his entire career into a weekly look at me media circus.

He should be 1-5 on the list. It's a shame because I think he gets overlooked as one of the greatest receivers of all time because of it.

I don't know, he recently humbly disagreed with those thinking no one can stop him:

From all reports Winston's teammates loved him so, not a cancer.

Did not know that so shouldn't have assumed it - in retrospect, it sounds like most of the apples in that barrel are of....<ahem> dubious quality

The thread is locker room cancers, not program-wide cancers.

No. "Locker room cancers" are players, not coaches, who make others worse, lower morale, inspire divisiveness, etc. Manziel, Winston . . . Not cancers. Incognito? Probably. When we had a qb controversy and one qb was reported to be dating the coach's daughter? Maybe. I would have to have been inside that locker room to know. (English is such a fascinating language, isn't it?) how about Arod during the investigations?Â

Alex Rodriquez, Barry Bonds, and Randy Moss through all but the last two years of his career.Â

Barry Bonds. Thomas "Hollywood" Henderson.Â

I know Rick Barry had a less than pleasant personality -- to the point that Clifford Ray gathered the rest of the team together to tell them to cut Barry slack during their championship season -- but did he rise to the point of being a locker room cancer? Kinda sounds like it here.
