The Cardinal and Vanderbilt have never played, but will meet four times between 2021 and 2027: at Vanderbilt on Sept. 18, 2021, and Sept. 6, 2025; at Stanford on Sept. 7, 2024, and Sept. 11, 2027.
The home-and-home series with TCU will be played at Stanford on Aug. 31, 2024, and in Fort Worth, Texas, on Sept. 4, 2027.

Wait, I thought Stanford was going to Vanderbilt in the near future...was that yanked while I wasn't looking? (I have family at Vandy right now--would have been a great excuse to visit.)

Vanderbilt has never been on a released schedule. According to various reports, we have Northwestern, Central Florida, Rice, Virginia, and BYU coming up in future years, along with NotreDame.
The only SEC team Stanford has scheduled in the regular season is Tulane, most recently in 1965 (which was Tulane's last year in the conference). So this will be something different for us. We did schedule Arkansas, Missouri, and Texas A&M, but they weren't in the SEC at the time.

Sheesh I'll be in my mid-50s by the time the first of these games is played and in my 60s when the last couple are played. Seeing as I'm still in my 40s ATM, this is too far off in the future to even think about.
@Northwestern Labor Day weekend, go 1-0

I like the idea of playing Vandy (like Northwestern). They are an academically inclined school, and though the chances that Mason is still coach there when we play them are slim, it'd still be a fun matchup. TCU, on the other hand, I worry about, not the least of which because the last home and home we had with them didn't go so well, including the infamous hurricane game.

I was at the 2007 game but don't remember the hurricane.Â
What I DO remember is that this was the first home game following our giddy win over USC prompting long lines at the in-stadium store to buy "The Greatest Upset Ever" shirts. Unfortunately, we lost a shootout by 2 points. (And then lost in a late blowout at TCU the following year.)
When was the hurricane?
Re: Stanford FB schedules Vandy and TCU -

A hurricane hit Texas in September 2008 (maybe Hurricane Ike?). The forecast for the Stanford-TCU game called for buckets of rain and wind. The kickoff time was moved up from the evening to early afternoon in an effort to avoid the storm. As it turned out, the weather wasn't as bad as expected. Stanford stayed within a TD of TCU until the last 3 minutes of the game. TCU put the game away by scoring 10 points right at the end, for a final score of 31-14.
Rumor has it that Harbaugh was considering using Luck in that game as a true freshman. But Harbaugh didn't want to throw Luck into his first game in the middle of a hurricane, so he decided to let Luck sit out. After that, the decision was made to redshirt Luck. That supposedly was as close as Luck got to playing as a freshman.

Not particularly excited about Vandy. Would prefer an SEC public school (LSU? Georgia?).
Always like a DFW area game for recruiting's sake.
Yeah, I'm going to be old dude by the time these roll around....

I don't like Vandy either, but supposedly Nashville's becoming a bit of a recruiting hotbed. Five 2015 prospects were four stars or higher according to Rivals. The theory I've heard is that having the NFL's Titans has helped boost the number of young prospects running around.

Another rumour has it that Harbaugh was considering playing Luck as late as two games later vs. UW. Pritchard then proceeded to have the best game of his career (16-24, 0 INT, 222 yds) and Harbaugh decided he could get through the season without Luck.

I'm looking forward to the 2027 game, as I now have an excuse to visit The Farm a few weeks before my son begins his junior year at Stanford.

You guys need to look at the stats for admission. Last year we admitted 5% of applicants. And "legacies" don't get much of a boost.
Maybe my daughter will be there and I can meet up with you then.

Yeah, and while I'm at it I could look at the death rate for 60+ year-old males who don't exercise and could stand to lose a few pounds. Nah... I'll just assume that CTCard, JeffInCorvallils and I will meet up at Zot's and share stories about the good old days on the CARDBoard and how it's all gone to hell lately.

I can't believe I'm still on this thing. But where else would I get my Stanford sports fix? :) It's not like any other alum in my area is similarly fanatical about Stanford sports, sigh...

Not sure what PapaJohn's plan is, but we're set to lock up the midget, ADHD, ski-bum, drum player, wanna-be-scientist-but-better-at-languages spot for fall of 2026.
