Yvonne-

I love the sound of my kids voices and their hugs, even when they are being little brats. I love my wife and the way she intellectually challenges me on a daily basis. I love seeing the "light" go on in a students head when they finally get a concept or theory they have been struggling with. I love feeling of freedom I get from riding my motorcycle, SCUBA diving or skiing in fresh snow. I honestly love the time I had at Stanford and who it helped turn me into, I just wish I had taken more advantage of the opportunities at that time. I love that even with all the blunders I have made in my life my parents love me unconditionally.

On a superficial side, I can say I love to go fast, I love having a nice glass of bourbon with a good friend, and I love watching Stanford sports, even when they frustrate me.

I love my son. I love asking him about his day at school, I love watching him play sports, I love reading to him at night, I love kissing him goodnight just after he's fallen asleep... you get the idea.

Deception in all its forms; and the internet sometimes seems lost in a tsunami of them.

Bigotry. 

The thought of saying more about this.  I think we all agree on these, and it seems better to leave them loathed but unsaid,

What about the form where Stanford scores touchdowns with well designed plays that deceive the opposition? I love this form of deception. But, I absolutely hate the forms where people are victimized by those with no conscience and morals.

Watching my kids, so different from me and each other, accelerate away on the arcs of the their lives.  So much smarter and more talented than I.
A marriage that has "made" it ... like a surfer successfully "makes" a wave. Deep satisfaction there.
Poetry. Discovered late. Pursued almost daily.
Doggies! Your dogs.My dogs.Dogs in general. End products of 2 species long symbiotically intertwined... and are suckers for belly rubs.
Sailing.
Wisdom and understanding of my (departed) parents. Solace there as I age.
Stanford football
Stanford in Germany, where "the light went on" (finally).  And Stanford for educating and nurturing an unfocused, un-"Stanford" kid anyway.
Japanese maples.
The moon's first crescent. Just the little sliver with the rest of the dark mass visible in the western sky at twilight. Gets to me every time.
My 3 yr. old niece.  Unexpected, blessed second chance to be part of a marvelous kid's life.
Old VW vans: quirky, simple, utilitarian, underpowered and not very safe. What's not to love?

SUBuddha, I'm confused.

Some things go together.  Peanut Butter and Chocolate, yes.  Bananas and Chocolate, yes.  Fondue pots, assorted berries and chocolate, YES, YES, YES.  Chocolate and Bacon as a combination? Seems like oil and water.

Show me a recipe though .... If you can pair my two favorite unhealthy foods I'm very willing to be won over.
