Mike Eubanks, the first operator of the Bootleg who transitioned to the Stanford Athletics Dept in its football program almost a decade ago has been named Stanford's Associate AD/Director of Recruiting and Football Relations. Despite his unwelcome and sometimes petty efforts to snuff out the Cardboard in its crib, Eubanks did have a gift for the mechanics behind the game of recruiting and has been promoted for his contributions while working for the football staff.

A promotion so well deserved. And Mike is a great guy. There 8)

...and is pushing Stanford football forward against all the inherent recruiting handicaps we've faced, then good on him, as the Brits say.
But this does not change history. I doubt he even thinks about the Cardboard these days, but his past and his efforts to derail the Cardboard are what they are, err,
were. We
all are the complete sum total of our acts and thoughts in this life, a fact that should humble us enough as it is. I don't carry a grudge, I simply remember. May Stanford prosper for his efforts in his new responsibilities.

Eubanks is a good guy. I've known him since my freshman year (we were both chemistry majors, graduated in 1997, and worked in the same lab); our families still try to get together to the best our hectic schedules allow. I don't know what happened in the early days of the Cardboard, so I won't comment. But know that you have a Stanford man through and through directing recruiting, and he has been excellent in that capacity. I'm very happy for him, and for Stanford to have him.

So I guess the chemistry didn't take.
The funny thing is that since pretty early Bootleg days, I knew ME97 was Mike Eubanks. Still, somehow those initials are so ingrained for me that I could never (can never?) shake the initial thought that he was a Mechanical Engineer. So it briefly takes me aback when I hear he majored in something else.

Fond memories of Eubanks banning me from the Bootboard. I believe the offense was in the Teevens era when I posted "when is Stanford going to start caring about its football program?"
