Mr. Spock is dead - Rally - 02-27-2015

I have lived too long.  He would have been a perfect Stanford man.

LLAP - Ferris_Bueller - 02-27-2015

the most moving tribute to the man who was Spock imo has to be the 2011 BrunoMars' "alternate official video" of BM's LazySong, sniff..

It was great fun to re-watch this ad from 2013 with Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto.  Stay to the end for the Stanford connection.

thanks Spiny, hadn't seen that before.  according to accounts elsewhere..
Quote:NortonB*ar:
FYI, his son is a Cal Alum. He was at Cal when I was there in the mid-70's. I went to a showing of "A Clockwork Orange" at Wheeler Auditorium and Leonard got up and introduced the movie that night. I was very pleased to see Leonard and his son at Cal. RIP.

What else would you expect. Star Fleet HQ is (or will be) located just across the Bay in San Francisco.

did cardboarders recognize the lil ditty Nimoy mutters while driving at ~1:10?  "bilbo baggins <something> <something>" is a wink and a nod to the infamous vid LN taped quite a while ago, fwiw:

Infinite recursive loop?

sweet, very well played Mick.  already tagged "infinite recursive loop" by webmistress so there's nothing left to add.

but that's never given pause to honorable heathens before. happens i've got a song to share.  equally fascinating as whatever ditty provoked Bluto's Animal House descending a staircase guitar episode.

presenting a nearly century old revered traditional ballad "georgie on the freeways" composed and performed by (still alive and touring) topical specialist Tom Paxton.  a reeeal toe tapper this one is:

sympathetic to folks trying their best to keep up with song lyrics i'm pleased to list 'em below.  even highlit the money stanza (safe for work):

The summer sun was beating down,
Oh pity would it show
George Chester's office air conditioner
Would no longer go.
As pools of sweat rolled off his brow
He had one reverie.
He saw himself with his wife and kids
In his cottage by the sea.

He paid for his car at the parking lot
Which gave the poor man chills.
The attendant laughed and walked away
Thumbing a roll of bills.
He started his engine with trembling hands
At the end of a long, hard day.
And placing himself in the hands of God
He drove to the long freeway.

The traffic stretched far as the eye can see
As bumper to bumper they sped.
They drove at supernatural speeds
Which filled his heart with dread.
Sometimes they stopped for an hour or more
And a thousand horns would blow.
George Chester's eyes rolled back in his head
And his poor brain started to go.

He came at last to the turnpike gate
And he laid his money down.
He took the first turn to the right
And he followed the curve around
He took each bend of the clover leaf,
He followed every sign,
And when he came back to the same toll gate
He gave them another dime.

His hands were tight on the steering wheel,
His lips and throat were dry.
He swore by all that he held dear
He'd make it through or die.
He took the first turn to the right
The clover leaf to go through.
He was quite sure of his success
Till the toll gate rose in view.

And now they say when the moon is full
And the clover leaf is still,
The sound of an engine can be heard
Laboring up the hill.
A dime drops in the toll machine
In the cool of a summer's night.
And eternally that poor car
Takes the first turn to the right.

For some reason tonight this really depressed me.  Thanks, I guess.

Didn't mean to depress anyone, honest.  A couple scattered cardboarder' nearly inaudible groans would have sufficed, Mick's esp.  Anyways, so sorrry Ferrari.

Re: Mr. Spock is dead - fullmetal - 03-01-2015

Nimoy's Spock was a hero and inspiration to me through all of my most formative years.  Memento mori.

Re: Mr. Spock is dead - Hurlburt88 - 03-01-2015

One of my first actions as a freshman new to the farm was to cycle into Palo Alto & buy a "The Search for Spock" movie poster at a poster shop.  Hung on various walls for 10 years until finally being too ratty to make the cut with my new wife.Â
