So Vanderbilt went winless in SEC play. Averaged 17 ppg, gave up 34 ppg. Mason's...probably making defensive staff changes?

He'd better make some changes before he becomes the changee rather than the changer.

Seems it's OC Dorrell who's getting defenestrated:

The link from WIM mentions ex-Stanford assistant Mike Sanford as a possible replacement for Dorrell at Vandy.
I don't remember any discussion on this message board about the effect of Sanford's departure on the Stanford offense.
But he had been at Stanford long enough to have left an impact. Sanford began coaching at Stanford in 2011 as a running backs coach (he had been an offensive assistant in 2007-2008). A former QB at Boise State (where he was OC this year), in 2013 he also coached QBs at Stanford, in addition to coaching wide receivers and serving as recruiting coordinator.
Perhaps his departure had something to do with some of the offensive struggles we saw this season.

Hey, but he's won as many games against currently top 25 ranked opponents as SEC East champ Missouri.Â

This is Mason's first year in a program that was so close to imploding that James Franklin was desperate for a way out. Vandy would be foolish to think that a one-year turnaround was possible.

Don't know much about Vandy.
Outside of the fact they were terrible this year, how do we know that Vandy was so close to imploding?
The past three years Vandy went 6-7, 9-4, 9-4 - which by itself doesn't look like an impending implosion.

So an ethical implosion more than an on-field performance implosion?
I would guess Vandy just wanted to be a full fledged member of the SEC.
taggart watch -

Taggart gets another year at USF.
Quote: Minutes after Friday's loss, the first home shutout defeat in school history, Harlan said he was committed to Taggart for next season.
Committed, but far from content.
"This university's too special to not have a team in a bowl game," said Harlan, who saw the first Bulls team on his watch finish 4-8.
"There's other measurables I'm excited about. I like our recruiting. I like what we're doing off the field. I like what we're doing in the classroom. But certainly we need to win more football games."
Though Harlan was unwilling to say a bowl is mandatory for Taggart next season, most will presume that is unspoken.

Right. I'm not sure whatever happened to the investigation, etc. Maybe they swept it under the rug, ACC/$EC-style.
