what if we traded schedules? - djones - 11-21-2014

If we traded schedules with kal this year...would we be, at worst 7-3?
would the 59ers be at best 4-6?

Can't know of course - jacketree - 11-21-2014

Unless you think there is some magic to playing at home, and I'm not seeing it this year, the differentiation in schedules is this:

Swap UC Davis for Sacramento State  - wash

Swap ASU for Arizona - pretty tough to call; maybe slight advantage in ease of schedule to Cal  (Cal had them beat too.)

Swap Utah for Colorado - clear advantage Cal

Swap Army for Northwestern - clear advantage Stanford

Swap Notre Dame for BYU - advantage Stanford, but um check out what Northwestern did to ND, so wash

I think in total the relative schedule difficulty is a wash, or maybe Cal had an easier schedule by one game at most.

So 6-4 and 4-6 maybe.  A .500 cage match is where these two teams are at the moment.

Interesting.
I think I am seeing it in spades, but upon further reflection maybe it's not so clear.

It seems to me that we have played mostly okay at home, though complete with the three-stooges act on offense versus the better teams (S.-C. and Utah). Now that mistake-fest problem is the defining problem of the season, so "except for" may be the controlling issue and is certainly no after-thought.

On the road we have completely stunk out the joint twice, stunk but managed to keep the game competitive once, and played moderately well but still with the ridiculous offensive mistakes once.

At home we outgained each and every opponent. On average 416-191 yds, or 185% of opponents yds from scrimmage.
On the road we outgained only one opponent. On average 322-358, or 90% of opponents yds from scrimmage.

Home we are 4-2.
On the road we are 1-3.

However, we have played better opponents on the road which perhaps is the predominant factor in all of the above.

You will find out in 2015 and 2016 when the conference schedules flip flop.Â
