Along with many others, I've been disappointed in our play calling all year. Today, it looked like the coaches called plays that put us in a position to win. Unfortunately, kids din't make plays on offense when they had the chance. Hate to see the seniors go out this way. Congrats to Henry Anderson for a monster game.

Williamson had never made one from that distance, plus he had been erratic this year. So I see why he passed it up and hoped to get the ball back one last time--which we did. But in overtime, he really had no other choice--it was desperation.Â
But it does seem that we would have won the game had Williamson been allowed to kick and had he done as well as he actually did do in overtime. He had an extra ten yards on that one and it was dead accurate.

I'm done being disappointed. After tonight I just don't care any more what happens the rest of this season. I'm not going to Big Game because I'm not going to spend any more money to watch this crap. It's not entertaining.
I don't think the talent on offense is as good as we thought. Hogan is a bottom-half QB in the Pac-12. The OL is not as good as their star ratings would suggest. None of the RBs is good enough.
If Harbaugh leaves the 49ers and they want to hire Shaw, at this point I wouldn't shed too many tears if he left. I'd rather he stayed, brought in a new OC and let him do the playcalling, brought in a new QB coach, and had an open competition for QB in spring camp. But if he's going to continue down the same path he's been on this year, then I'm ambivalent about him returning next season.

If Harbaugh leaves the 49ers, I hope he just drives right down the 101 a little ways. I'd make that trade.

What really hurts is the realization that the last four years were likely a blessing and we are unlikely to reach that level again any time soon.
My buddy and I were joking that you know you have lost faith in your QB when you have your WR take two straight snaps from the shotgun during a 4th quarter, potentially game-winning drive.
If Hogan is our QB next year, that will be a very bad sign. He was outplayed by a Utah QB whose performance this season was bad enough that he was benched. We were having much more success running the ball than Utah and Hogan still struggled.

I'd take any coach who was serious about coaching up his QB rather than try to hide the QB's deficiencies with scheme and personnel. I don't understand how Hogan hasn't been coached up to improve his weaknesses.

I wouldn't give you a downvote for it, but it's a little like dreaming about winning the lottery.
It's not going to happen, so why bother?
Shaw will be our coach, for better or worse, for at least a couple of more years. Is he capable of and/or willing to make the changes necessary to get us back to where we have been? Stay tuned.

Ten games after a second straight Rose Bowl -- the first coach in 40 years to achieve that -- we're ready to get rid of him. But I can understand the belief that it will be easy to find somebody better -- after all, we didn't have any trouble replacing Ty.rone Will.ingham. Or the guy who followed him.
I don't think dreaming about the possibility of having Harbaugh back (it's not going to happen) is quite the same as thinking Shaw should be fired.
I think most sane, responsible Stanford fans don't feel that Shaw should be fired, but do feel that some serious changes are going to have to be made if we are ever going to get back to where we were. Hopefully Shaw will be capable of making them.

One thing's for sure, Garvin, you haven't furtively reading the "other" board.
Harbaugh demoting Shaw and promoting Roman to OC gets mentioned there, oh, once or twice a week.

I see one of two scenarios and I'm not sure which one is the truth or if it's somewhere in between:
1. This is all that Kevin Hogan is as a QB. He can't drop back, read the whole field, and consistently deliver the ball in the midrange. If this is the case then in the short term you need to change the scheme to emphasize his strengths rather than continue to hope that he will be more like the QB you want to have. In the longer term you need to have an open competition for QB in spring ball and hope you have a QB on the roster who can do a better job of running the offense you want to have next season.
2. The QB coach (Pritchard) has failed to coach him up. If this is the case then you need to go find the Duane Akina of QB coaches and pay him whatever it takes.
I think Shaw needs to do both of these, as well as bring in an OC from outside the program and reverse roles with him. Shaw has input on plays but the playcalling falls to the new OC. Is the last part a pipe dream? Probably.
