Rose Bowl??? - stanfan - 11-27-2010

Wow!  How close we were yesterday to the perfect storm.  If only the Tide could have held on!   However, are we out of the Rose Bowl hunt?  Assume with me that the Cardinal, TCU and Oregon win out.   As I understand it, the RB is not obligated to take a non-AQ team this year, but it is obligated to take one over the next 4 years.  Am I correct on that point?   It would seem our chances of getting chosen over TCU (which also has attendance issues) is much better than it would have been if Boise  had remained undefeated.  Stanford would clearly sell its ticket allotment to the Rose Bowl and is a "hot" commodity nationally with Coach Harbs and Luck.   So, what are out chances?

Probably not Rose, but BCS is looking even more probable, provided we take care of business.

I believe we need Auburn to lose to South Carolina in the SEC Championship game and have TCU move to the national championship to be able to go to the Rose.

Re: Rose Bowl??? - Farm93 - 11-27-2010

Auburn losing could/should bump TCU into the NCG.  That would be nice.  But watching the SEC is brutal.  The teams all play undisciplined styles that rely on speed to cover mistakes and bad play calling.

South Carolina could take Auburn, but things will be pretty OK for Stanford if Arkansas can take LSU.  If that happens, Stanford might slide into BCS #4 and could go to the Fiesta Bowl.  That would be rather nice.

Re: Rose Bowl??? - Ratmandoo - 11-27-2010

We won\'t end up in the Fiesta Bowl. The Fiesta is obligated to take the Big 12 champ and then has the last pick of the remaining at large teams or the Big East champ (The Big East is the only AQ conference that doesn\'t have its champ automatically slotted into one of the four BCS games). Because the Big East Champ will be terrible, that\'s who they will end up with. If Stanford ends up in the top 4 in the BCS and TCU goes to the Rose Bowl, we will end up in either the Sugar or Orange.

Re: Rose Bowl??? - Spiny_Norman - 11-27-2010

Ratmandoo - Let\'s assume that Stanford is #4 in the final BCS poll.  Put yourself in the position of the Orange Bowl.  Your choice could be the Big East champ or Stanford.  You might grit your teeth and pick the Big East champ because they are closer and will travel better to Miami.  In that case, the Fiesta Bowl would have no choice other than Stanford.

Re: Rose Bowl??? - Ratmandoo - 11-27-2010

Spiny - I hope you\'re right. I\'d much rather go to the Fiesta Bowl. But from everything I\'ve read, none of the BCS bowls want to touch the Big East champ.

Finally, this is where the hatred of "Stanford Fans" will serve all of us well.  No one wants the Big East Champ, but somebody has to select them so they have been in the conversation for weeks.  However, literally no one will wants Stanford and if Stanford is not #4 no one would need to select them.

The forces behind the Orange Bowl (hotels, tourism, etc.) will want any Big East champ over Stanford.  No doubt.  The Orange Bowl has had a few empty seats in prior years, so they can\'t afford a ring of orange seats.  The Big East champ will travel.

The Orange Bowl selects before the Fiesta.  So the Fiesta would be "stuck" with Stanford.  And that would be great for Stanford on so many levels.

However, Wisconsin just a touch behind Stanford last week.  The 38-0 win was important, but it is not out of the question that Wisconsin passes Stanford.

LA Woes for SC - Farm93 - 11-27-2010

Ummm...
Really need USC to beat Notre Dame here.  Just turned it on assuming that USC would be up by 20 or more.  And yet the score is 13-13.  What?!?!

Too many Big Ten teams played Notre Dame, so for the sake of the computers it is best that USC wins.  All of our conference opponents played USC, so opponent of opponent quality would help Stanford.

Very, very, very hard to route for this USC, but getting and keeping BCS #4 needs all of the help we can find.

Gosh.  How do you think Wilner will vote? - Redrum - 11-27-2010

I\'m thinking #5  behind Oregon, Auburn, TCU, Wisconsin  :)
