Stanford football has the #1 grad rate among major programs -

Stanford football reported a Graduation Success Rate of 99% this year. That's the top grad rate among major conference schools, and the #2 grad rate in FBS (behind Texas San Antonio).
Stanford football reported a Federal Graduation Rate of 93%. That was tied with Northwestern for the #1 grad rate in FBS.
Congrats to Stanford's student athletes!

Congrats to the team.Â
The Shaw regime gets some credit here, too. Things weren't this good from an academic perspective even during the Mamlet years, when admissions standards appeared to be higher. It appears that the current staff is particularly good at finding kids who will succeed at Stanford, even when the kids' objective grades/scores would not have met Mamlet's requirements.

In fairness, the graduation rates occurred during the previous coaching administration.

The report only covers students recruited in the dark ages (students entering in 2004-2007). The renaissance era coaches finished the job.

Love the comments to the article Yvonne linked. "A passing grade at C.al is equivalent to an A in the same class at Stanford..." Riiiiiight. ::)

Here's the key statement from the Ca.l article ...
Quote:Williams (Ca.l interim AD) said Ca.l had some leaders, both vocally and athletically, in the locker room that did not have a commitment to academics. This carried over to other players.
Youre either going to have the culture that you want or the culture that you let develop, Williams said. We were letting the culture develop that wasnt the culture we wanted.
In other words if your team leaders model an anti-intellectual/anti-academic locker room culture then you too can have the worst graduation rate in the FBS. The "brand" at Stanford is centered around "Nerd Nation", "Intellectual Brutality" and Andrew Luck exceling at both football and mechanical engineering/architecture. Where's his counterpart among the leaders at Berkeley?Â
There will always be a few Ca.l fans who prefer to tear down Stanford rather than fix their own school - this kind of dichotomy where worst and first are 80 miles and light years apart has to hurt - but I suspect the calmer heads are taking a close look at Stanford's success and trying to figure out what part might fit at Berkeley and how the Berkeley brand can be changed.Â
Good luck to them - changing culture is HARD.

It really doesn't matter. Regardless of the timing, the academic woes at Cal are always the previous coach's fault. These things only become the current coach's fault once he's fired (at which point, it all instantaneously becomes his fault).
