Stanford's next great cornerback? -
Hulk01 - 10-27-2014
No idea how this might swing, but Garret Taylora DB from the state that brought us Ed Reynolds and Alex Carter, as well as our current starting QBhas decommitted from Michigan.
â¨Taylor voiced strong interest in Stanford back when we offered him in May '13. He said he was looking for good academics, with a specific interest in Stanford, Michigan, Vandy and Notre Dame. He also mentioned that he knows about Stanford from an uncle who got his graduate degree on The Farm and now teaches at Dartmouth.
His initial short list suggested that he preferred staying not far from home: Michigan was the distant-most school on a list that included Va Tech, Penn State, and Ohio State.Â
Hes the highest-ranked cornerbackRivals #6that weve gotten this close to.
Id bet on Notre Dame now because of its advantage in distance and good start and middle to this season. But maybe...

It could be another strong DB class if at least 3 of the Buncom, Edwards, Meeks, Taylor prospects comes through. From an area of weakness just a few years ago, this is becoming a real area of strength. This comes none too soon in the pass happy Pac 12.
Now if we can start landing a standout DT in each class, the future prospects of the program would be that much brighter.Â

Shaw's confidence about this DB class tells me that three of those recruit may be virtual locks and four a possibility.

Additionally, Arrington Farrar is already committed. He looks to profile as a future nickelback rather than a pure safety.
Some services have him as a safety, another as an OLB, and another as an athlete.

Well, we've still got a good shot at not one but two stand out DTs in Wilkins and Green, right? Or is one of them a DE?

247 does not give us a chance of landing either of them. At this point, it is not clear that this class will have any DT's or DE's.
Ross Donelly looks to be a possible DT if he can get admitted.

That's kind of odd, as far as I can tell Wilkins has only officially visited us, and I've heard he's been keeping things very quiet the whole time. I'm not putting any stock into what the 247 "experts" are guessing considering I've seen them change their minds all at once in the past, plus 247 also lists us as one of only two "warm" schools. If there hasn't been any news that Wilkins isn't looking at us, he's still looking at us.Â

Reagan Williams and Brian Chaffin come to mind.

I like our chances. Sherman + Akina makes us DB U.
Just to be clear, DB = defensive back. Douche Bag U is aka $outhernCal.

Should this thread be in the class of 2015 thread?
Anyway, I've been pretty confident about Stanford getting Christian Wilkins for a long time. He and Donnelly would be really nice. Don't think Green is realistic. In any case, there is no way Stanford isn't going to sign at least 3 DL in 2015. You can't lose Henry Anderson, David Parry, and Ikenna Nwafor (and arguably Kuamatule to OLB), and not sign a few DL.
Buncom and Edwards seem like Stanford locks. Both are Safeties, but Buncom can probably play CB too. Farrar certainly makes that possible. Meeks seems like he's Stanford-bound if he is admitted. That is five DBs. Don't think they would take six DBs in 2015 after taking five in 2014. Even five in back-to-back classes seems like a lot. Stanford is loaded at DB, LB, and TE. Need to build the depth at DL, WR, and RB this class.

What's the assessment around here of Edwards? He seems to be rated fairly high but, in a game televised earlier this year, he was pretty much invisible, at least to me. His teammate, Toliver (sp?), at CB, was much more impressive. And only published 40 time I found on one of the recruiting sites was 4.77!....not exactly blazing!
