Bowl Game? - cardcoug - 10-18-2014

If anything shows just how horrible that performance was, its this: in just over three hours, we've gone from wondering about playoff chances to hoping we can get to six wins.

We know all three - yes, all three - road games will be tough. Oregon state will also be tough, and Utah is 5-1. I don't see two more wins on that slate.

I'm still optimistic, perhaps foolishly so, that the Trees can beat the Beavs at home and kal on the road.  After last night, both could easily be losses too.  The other three games -- Utah at home, UCLA and Oregon on the road -- all look like an uphill battle at this point.  The defense is strong enough to keep Stanford in each of the remaining games.  Can the offense and special teams give the defense enough help, or at the very least avoid the stupid mistakes and turnovers, to win?

The most disappointing thing to me is that the offense seems to be getting worse rather than better.  I know ASU was fired up, had an extra week to prepare and apparently had this game circled in red since last December, but that is a bad ASU defense that dominated Stanford's offense.  That just can't happen.

I'm not going that far but without a revival of the gameplan from the first half of the WSU game this is an 8-4 team at best.  They won't fall to 6-6 with Oregon St, UCLA, and Cal still on the schedule - they all suck worse.  But I'm thinking the Fight Hunger Bowl is the upside, and the Sun Bowl or Las Vegas Bowl are more likely spots if they keep coaching and playing like this.

If we continue to play as we did last night I think the chances are excellent we fall to UCLA, CAL, Oregon State and Utah.  Our offense didn't look like a D1 team last night and, good as they are, the D can't play 55 minutes.  It looked like even they lost heart a few times.

Isn't that what everyone said about ASU?

Sadly, I would agree with Ferrari.

I think next Saturday Beavers make it a tight affair that Stanford can/might eek out, Oregon is out for Cardinal blood and playing at their expected high level after early stumbles, Utah is solid and maybe great having last year's win for confidence, Cal has no defense but can score on anyone and UCLA is also in revenge mode and at home.

Unless something changes soon, 5-7 is looming.
